Gameloft, the mobile developer founded by Ubisoft’s Michel Guillemot that helped to bring Earthworm Jim and Rayman to DSiWare, has unveiled its brand new magical collaboration with Disney.
Disney Dreamlight Valley is a cross between a life-sim and adventure game where you can interact with your favourite Disney and Pixar characters to help uncover their memories and restore life to an idyllic village. Gameloft already has experience with the Disney free-to-play brand, as it handles the mobile game Disney Magic Kingdoms and is currently developing the arcade racer Disney Speedstorm.
You’ll be able to design your own Disney and Pixar-inspired outfits with a huge range of customisation tools within the game, and you’ll also be able to change the layout of your village. As you progress through the game, more and more Disney and Pixar characters, clothes, and items will be added. You will also get to explore areas inspired by Disney and Pixar films, like the Frosted Heights to the Peaceful Meadow.
The cute little trailer above (thanks, Gematsu!) showcases just a few of the activities you can do with some of the characters — you can take pictures with Anna and Elsa from Frozen, help Wall-E water the crops, go fishing with Goofy, and cook with Remy from Ratatouille.
Here’s a summary of the game from Gameloft’s official website:
Disney Dreamlight Valley is a hybrid between a life-sim and an adventure game rich with quests, exploration, and engaging activities featuring Disney and Pixar friends, both old and new.
Once an idyllic land, Dreamlight Valley was a place where Disney and Pixar characters lived in harmony—until the Forgetting. Night Thorns grew across the land and severed the wonderful memories tied to this magical place. With nowhere else to go, the hopeless inhabitants of Dreamlight Valley retreated behind locked doors in the Dream Castle.
Now it’s up to you to discover the stories of this world and bring the magic back to Dreamlight Valley!
Starting in summer 2022, Disney Dreamlight Valley will be available in Early Access for players who purchase a Founder’s Pack or have an Xbox Game Pass member ahead of the game’s free-to-play launch in 2023.
We’ve still got a while to wait before we can dive into Dreamlight Valley, but Founder’s Pack and Xbox Game Pass users will be able to jump into Early Access this summer. So, if you’re interested, it might be worth picking it up.
The trailer already confirms that Toy Story, Wreck-It Ralph, Cinderella, Monster’s Inc., Moana, among many others, will be in the game. But these shots also give us a clearer look at characters from The Little Mermaid and The Sword in the Stone‘s Merlin:
