PS Plus Premium is Losing One of Its Best Games This Month

Sony’s PlayStation Plus service has been expanded to include three tiers. The highest tier is PlayStation Plus Premium, which gives subscribers access to a host of retro games along with plenty of PS4 and PS5 titles, as well as the monthly free games. Since launching these new PlayStation Plus tiers, Sony has regularly expanded the library with new game additions, with plenty more games set to be added on September 20.

While September 20 will be a huge day for PS Plus Premium subscribers, it’s also going to be a somewhat sad day for the service. On that day, PlayStation Plus Premium subscribers will be losing access to one of its highest-rated games in the form of Rockstar’s 2018 open world western Red Dead Redemption 2.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is a PS4 game, which would typically make it a part of the PS Plus Extra tier, but it’s available to stream through PS Plus Premium as a leftover from when the service was known as PlayStation Now. It’s one of the highest-rated video games of all time, with critics praising its impressive graphics, engrossing story, and impressive sense of realism. Red Dead Redemption 2 took home numerous awards in 2018, and it remains one of the industry’s most popular titles. To see it removed from the PlayStation Plus Premium lineup is definitely going to be a blow for the service, though many other highly-rated games will remain available to play.

In fact, 2018’s other highest-rated game, God of War, will remain playable to anyone with a PS Plus Premium subscription. On top of that, many more new games are being added to PS Plus Premium come September 20. In total, PS Plus Premium subscribers will have a whopping 17 new games to check out come September 20, so that should lessen the sting of Red Dead Redemption 2‘s removal quite a bit.

The games coming to both the PS Plus Premium and PS Plus Extra tiers on September 20 are Alex Kidd in Miracle World DX, Assassin’s Creed Origins, Chicory: A Colorful Tale, Deathloop, Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2, Monster Energy Supercross, Rabbids Invasion: The Interactive TV Show, Rayman Legends, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, Spiritfarer: Farewell Edition, and Watch Dogs 2.

These game should keep subscribers plenty busy, but those who are signed up for PS Plus Premium have some classic titles to look forward to on September 20 as well. On that day, subscribers will be able to check out Bentley’s Hackpack, Kingdom of Paradise, Syphon Filter 2, The Sly Collection, Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time, and the PSP version of Toy Story 3.
